Last year more than 100,000 American women underwent breast reduction surgery.
The procedure can have aesthetic motivations like getting both breasts to equal size, but other women do it to alleviate back and shoulder pain from breast weight. Typically, breast reduction requires three incisions, but a new procedure called lollipop breast reductions can reduce that to just two incisions, cutting recovery time and causing less scarring.
The new procedure also prevents the t-scar that is common in breast reduction surgery.
A doctor can counsel patients through deciding whether to opt for the traditional or the lollipop procedure. Often it can depend on the objectives of the particular patient.
With lollipop or any cosmetic surgery, remember it is important to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.
