We caught up with Dr. Tiffany McCormack to get educated on breast augmentation surgery.

  • What makes someone a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery?

A good candidate for breast augmentation surgery is someone who is in good overall health, within a healthy and stable weight range and not in the middle of a stressful life change. Most patients seeking breast augmentation surgery are looking to have larger breasts. Some patients are merely seeking better symmetry and still others are looking for a better shape, especially after having children.

  • How would you describe your consultation session?

I focus on the education of my patients. I spend time discussing different types of implants, different placements and incision sites as well as sizes and profiles. I use the Touch MD computerized system to show various photos and anatomical demonstrations to help patients better understand their options. My goal is to help put my patients at ease so that they feel comfortable with the process as well as with me as their physician.

  • What are potential complications?

Complications may include bleeding, infection, asymmetry, permanent numbness, hardening of the implants and implant rupture, to name the most common.  Most of these risks are in the 1%-2% range.  Most of these are also fixable.

  • How long do results generally last?

It depends…. your body will continue to age and change. Other factors may change the shape of your breasts such as weight fluctuations and pregnancy with or without breast-feeding. Your implant may also eventually rupture. Like any medical device, they are not made to last forever. A minimum of 10 years without rupture is typical. In fact, I have seen implants last for over 20 years.

  • How do you define a successful result?

A satisfied patient who feels as though they are not too big or too small defines success in most cases. I am generally going for a beautiful shape with a certain degree of fullness on top that will fill out a bikini top yet look natural such that the patient does not feel like the whole world can tell that she had a breast augmentation. A successful outcome will keep them guessing.
