Hit vocalist John Mayer is undergoing Botox treatment to help repair his damaged singing voice.
Earlier this year Mayer underwent surgery to remove a nodule from his vocal cords and now he’s in the process of bouncing back with Botox.
“They cut this thing out of your throat and then they inject your vocal cords with Botox, which freezes your vocal cords so that this thing can heal without smacking up against the other side,” Mayer explained on a recent visit to the Ellen DeGeneres show.
The Grammy winner, who released his latest album last month, was forced to cancel a US tour this year, but still continues to write.
“I’m very happy to be a writer, really lucky to be a writer,” he said.
This is actually the second round of Botox treatments for Mayer’s vocal cords. An earlier treatment didn’t allow him enough time to heal from the surgery.
Mayer has taken time away from the bright lights of the music industry by moving to Montana. He says the pressure of his sudden stardom was a bit much to take. ”I just sort of lost my head for a little while,” he said.
